  • Solar System 2017-18

Mrs Auslander's students learned about our Solar System and then created this "green screen" project using Filmora -http://msdweb.muhlsdk12.org/District/21stCentury/20172018AuslanderSolarSystem.mp4

    Animal Research Project (2016-17)

Second Graders completed their own research to learn about an animal of their choosing as an extension project in our science unit focusing on animals and biomes. They used different apps and websites to find out more information about their planet. They used Pebble Go, Big Universe, Epic!, and World Book Kids Online. They had to research about the animal’s classification, what it looks like as a baby animal and adult animal, where it lives, what it eats, predators of their animal, and any special adaptations to help it survive! Second Graders took their research from their graphic organizer, wrote it on a story board, and typed it on the app, Book Creator. They included a “Quiz Me’ page for readers to answer once they are finished reading about their animal. Students also added a Sources page to thank the places where they found their information to complete their projects.

    Constellations Project
Students researched about constellations and read about them during our reading unit. Then students created their own constellation on the app Scratch, Jr. and gave it a name! (Adobe Spark videos are below from both our classes projects)

    Career Day Reports
Second Graders created reports in Book Creator describing what they wished to have as a career in the future.

    Dinosaur Green Screen Research Project

Second Graders completed their own research to find out more about dinosaurs while in our science unit, Treasures Around the World. They used different apps and websites to find out information relating to the dinosaur that they chose. They used the Big Universe, EPIC, and World Book Kids to find out what time period their dinosaur lived, what it looked like, what it ate, and more.

Second Graders were video tapped using a GREEN SCREEN app called TouchCast! You might wonder what is a green screen? Through the magic of video effects and technology, students were superimposed onto a virtual background. Second Graders reported ‘live’ with an actual dinosaur!

Students worked together as a group to create an introduction and conclusion to their newscast.  They took their own research, picked out important facts to share, wrote a script and presented their research as a news report.

    Fact and Opinion Book
Students learned about informational text, focusing on text features, author’s purpose, and facts and opinions. To accomplish this they read articles, books, and researched bats independently on their iPads. Second Graders then took their facts and formed opinions about bats, and created their own Fact and Opinion book using the app Book Creator. Students also incorporated pictures to support their facts and opinions. They created a diagram of a bat using the app called, Skitch, which was also imported into their books. The last page of their book included a ‘Thank You’ page giving credit to the author’s of where they found their information.

    President’s Day
In celebration of President’s Day, Second Graders wrote what they would do if they were the President of the United States. They wrote a paragraph, including an introduction, details, and a conclusion, as to what they would do if they were the president. They used the app Book Creator to type their paragraph. Then they used the app PicCollage to import their face on $100 bill. To finish, they imported their personalized $100 bill into Book Creator.

    Cinderella Chatterpix
Students read two different versions of the classic fairytale, Cinderella. ‘Good readers make connections to characters as they read.’ Students first choose their favorite character in the story Cinderella and wrote three reasons, with supporting details, about why that character is their favorite. Then they presented their writing by reading it and creating a Chatterpix.
