Attendance at MEC
Attendance is one of the most important factors in ensuring a student's academic success - from day one of Kindergarten to the last day of 12th grade, attendance never stops mattering! Especially at the elementary level, parents and families play a huge role in making sure that students get to school and are ready to learn each day. We look forward to working with all of our families at having this academic year show our best attendance rates yet!
Did you know ...
- Chronically absent means missing 18 or more days of school per year
- This is just two days per month!
- Missing two days per month = missing at least 30 hours of math and 60 hours of reading & writing that school year
- If kids continue to miss 2 days per year, they will end up missing approximately an entire year of school by graduation!
- Children chronically absent in Kindergarten & 1st grade are less likely to read on grade level by the end of 3rd grade
- By 6th grade, chronic absenteeism is an early warning sign that a child is more likely to drop out of school
- Attendance improves when the school engages students AND parents in positive ways
Watch for some fun incentives throughout the school year as MEC works with you and your children to improve attendance this year!
