    Kindergarten

    (One 40-minute period every cycle)

    1. Begin an appreciation of many kinds of music through listening
    2. Enhance learning and creativity through a variety of musical experiences
    3. Develop a sense of rhythm through steady beats and accompaniment rhythm patterns
    4. Perceive melody moving upward and downward
    5. Discover the tone color of various instruments
    6. Discover the joys of making music

    1st Grade

    (One 40-minute period every cycle)

    1. Develop music appreciation through listening and discussing various types of music
    2. Enhance learning and creativity through various experiences, including performing alone and with a group
    3. Learning note values, and create and perform rhythm patterns
    4. Discover pitch moving in steps, skips, and repeating patterns
    5. Recognize various tone colors within a piece of music
    6. Discover form as a building block of making music
    7. Enhance self-worth through the joys of making music, both alone and with a group

    2nd Grade

    (One 40-minute period every cycle)

    1. Develop music appreciation through listening and discussing the various elements they hear in the music
    2. Enhance learning and creativity through various experiences, including performing alone and with a group, both vocally and instrumentally
    3. Learn note values, and create and perform rhythm patterns to accompany songs
    4. Read notes and discover melody lines
    5. Distinguish various forms of music
    6. Enhance self-worth through the joys of making music, both alone and with a group

    3rd 

    (One 40-minute period every cycle)

    Intermediate music offers a sequential and varied approach to teaching musical elements and skills, creative ways to link music instruction to other curriculum areas, and many opportunities for independent performance. Students will acquire a solid foundation of music knowledge and skills through singing, listening and playing on various classroom instruments.
