Student Assistance Program (SAP)
In Pennsylvania, every school district is required to have a plan for identifying and assisting students who experience “barriers to learning.” The student assistance program is a Pre-K through Twelfth grade system designed for assisting parents and school personnel in removing these barriers. A SAP team, made up of school and agency staff, are available to help you access school and community services for your child.
The Muhlenberg Elementary Center (MEC) SAP team will help you find services and assistance within the school and, if needed, in the community. We do not diagnose, treat, or refer your child for treatment. Rather, we will provide you with the information necessary to make the choices. The goal is to help your child succeed in school. The SAP team also offers proactive programming, such as educational/support groups and information sessions in which all students are welcome to participate. In the Muhlenberg School District, we contract with the Caron Foundation, who provides each school with a SAP Specialist who is a member of the SAP team, runs groups, and completes assessments.
