Expectations
-
Our school values four cornerstones: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience, and Readiness. In our classroom, we have added two more: Kindness and Integrity. These six values guide our behavior and actions throughout the day. Here's how they look in different settings:
-
Respect
- In the Classroom: Listen when others are speaking, use kind words, and follow directions.
- In the Hallway: Walk quietly, keep hands and feet to yourself, and be mindful of other classes.
- At Recess: Include others in games, share equipment, and resolve conflicts peacefully.
- In the Cafeteria: Use an inside voice, clean up after yourself, and show good manners.
- On the Bus: Follow the driver’s rules, stay seated, and talk quietly with your friends.
- During Small Groups: Take turns speaking, share materials, and encourage others.
-
Responsibility
- In the Classroom: Be prepared with your materials, complete your work on time, and help keep our space clean.
- In the Hallway: Stay in line, walk directly to your destination, and be aware of your surroundings.
- At Recess: Follow the rules, play safely, and be responsible for any equipment you use.
- In the Cafeteria: Make healthy choices, eat your food, and be responsible for your trash.
- On the Bus: Follow bus rules, take care of your belongings, and arrive at your stop safely.
- During Small Groups: Stay on task, contribute to the group work, and be responsible for your role.
-
Resilience
- In the Classroom: Keep trying, even when things get hard. Mistakes are part of learning!
- In the Hallway: Stay focused, even when there are distractions. Remember your goal.
- At Recess: Don’t give up if a game doesn’t go your way. Keep a positive attitude.
- In the Cafeteria: Make the best of any situation, even if things don’t go perfectly.
- On the Bus: Stay calm and patient, even if the ride is long or noisy.
- During Small Groups: Work through disagreements, listen to others, and stay positive.
-
Readiness
- In the Classroom: Be ready to learn with your materials, and a positive mindset.
- In the Hallway: Be prepared to move quietly and quickly, and know your next destination.
- At Recess: Be ready to participate, follow the rules, and have fun.
- In the Cafeteria: Know your lunch choice and be ready to make healthy decisions.
- On the Bus: Be on time, know your stop, and be prepared for the ride.
- During Small Groups: Come ready to share your ideas and listen to others.
-
Integrity
- In the Classroom: Be honest about your work, take responsibility for your actions, and do the right thing.
- In the Hallway: Walk quietly, even if no one is watching, and stay in line.
- At Recess: Play fair, follow the rules, and be truthful with others.
- In the Cafeteria: Make healthy choices, throw away your trash, and be honest with your friends.
- On the Bus: Follow the rules, be truthful to the driver, and treat others with respect.
- During Small Groups: Share your true thoughts, respect others' opinions, and stay true to your values.
-
Kindness
- In the Classroom: Help a friend who is struggling, use kind words, and show appreciation.
- In the Hallway: Smile, use kind gestures, and be courteous to others.
- At Recess: Include others in games, offer to help, and use kind words.
- In the Cafeteria: Use manners, say “please” and “thank you,” and help a friend in need.
- On the Bus: Be polite to the driver and other students, and offer help if someone needs it.
- During Small Groups: Encourage your classmates, be a good listener, and celebrate each other's ideas.
These cornerstones are the foundation of how we act and interact in all parts of our school day. By living these values, we create a positive and supportive learning community where everyone can thrive!
THINK: How We Communicate in Our Classroom
Before we speak, we always THINK. We ask ourselves:
-
T: Is it True?
Are my words based on facts and truth? Am I being honest? -
H: Is it Helpful?
Will what I say be useful, supportive, or provide a solution? -
I: Is it Inspiring?
Will my words encourage, uplift, or motivate others? -
N: Is it Necessary?
Is it important for me to say this right now? Will it add value to the conversation? -
K: Is it Kind?
Am I speaking with kindness, empathy, and respect?
By using THINK as our guide, we ensure that our communication is always positive and constructive, creating a classroom environment where everyone feels valued and respected.

Homework
-
Homework is not required in our classroom because I recognize the importance of your life outside of school. However, any homework you choose to complete and turn in will earn you a raffle ticket for our monthly academic growth raffle.
Reading homework will be to read for 20 minutes, three times a week, and respond to a prompt related to what we are currently learning in reading. Math homework will include spiral review or engaging math games to reinforce previously learned skills and fact fluency. This is a fun way to celebrate your hard work and dedication to learning, even beyond the classroom!
