Mr. John Winand, Jr.

I have taught 7th grade World History at Muhlenberg Middle School since 2007 after beginning my teaching career at Joseph Cooper Ferguson in North Philadelphia, where I taught Early American History (8th Grade) and World Geography (7th Grade). Over the last few years, I have coached cross country and track and field at middle and high school levels. I have also advised the school newspaper.  I look forward to teaching and meeting all my 7th-grade students this year!

My academic background is primarily focused on political science, but I have also studied history and Spanish at Kutztown University.  Most of my academic research has focused on Sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East; however, I have been focusing on the countries of East Asia in recent years as I continue to take offerings hosted by the National Consortium for Teaching About Asia (NCTA).

I recently began working towards my Ed.D in Transformational Teaching at Kutztown University.

My wife and I live in Sinking Spring, and we have four children (Carter (14), Isaac (13), Gabby (11), and Lincoln (6)).  We enjoy the Philadelphia Phillies and Sixers, playing sports, and going to the movies. I also love to travel - I have visited my countries worldwide. The most exciting places I have seen are Ghana, Turkey, and Egypt.

I grew up in Northwest Reading and graduated from Reading High School in 1998.  I have attended several colleges and universities and served as an adjunct professor during my academic journey.
