WELCOME TO HEALTH & PHYSICAL EDUCATION AT THE JUNIOR HIGH!

My name is Mrs. Aimee Walter and I am one of the Health and PE teachers at the Junior High School. This is my eleventh year as a teacher in the district and my fourth year at the Junior High. I am excited about teaching Health and Physical Education to 9th grade students and Wellness to some 7th grade students this school year. It is very important for students to be physically active for at least 60 minutes per day. It is my goal to have all students participate in class at the physical levels they are comfortable with. Students will have a variety of choices for activities/sports they would like to engage in during Physical Education classes. Health lessons will include topics such as Healthy Lifestyles, Healthy Relationships, Wellness topics that include Physical, Mental, and Social Health, Drugs, Alcohol, & Tobacco/Vaping, Reproductive Health, and any other topics that are deemed relevant to address at the 9th grade level. 7th grade Health (AKA:Wellness) will not meet as frequently and class will mostly be held in the Gym. 7th grade topics will include learning about the Body Systems (Cardiovascular, Skeletal, Muscular, etc.), Healthy Personal Boundaries, and Management of Emotions. My overview of wellness at this grade level is to build on skills previously taught to utilize in a team setting, to work on effective communication, to achieve wellness/activity goals, and most importantly:
TO HAVE FUN WHILE DOING SO!
During the school year, 9th grade students will meet for Health 3 days of the 6 day cycle and PE the other 3 days of the cycle. They will be able to choose 1 out of 2-4 different activities to engage in while in Physical Education class. 7th grade students will meet for Wellness every other cycle day. During Health classes, they will have opportunities to collaborate with their peers to create posters, complete group projects such as skits, create scenarios, etc., as well as individual work during class time. At the end of the school year in May, students will be able to participate in outdoor activities during a Field Day experience.
I hope to be able to inspire students to find something they enjoy and excel at during the course of the school year. It is important to find time to be active every day, and I am here to help give students those tools to do so. I hope you enjoy my page and have a wonderful school year. GO MUHLS!!!
