Finding a College/University
Many students struggle to choose which colleges and/or universities they want to apply to. Here are some suggestions for narrowing down your choices:
1. Log on to Career Cruising/Naviance2. Use the "College Search" on College Board3. Go to visit a college/university and take a campus tour4. Sign up to attend an information session with college representatives that come to MHS. More information can be found in the guidance office.Applying to CollegeAlmost all colleges/universities now require that applications be submitted online via their website. Students should create accounts for those schools that they will be applying to. Once they have begun their application, they should be able to view the application requirements for that school, such as letters of recommendation and essays.See the Common App link for more information.Once you have applied to a school, PLEASE INFORM YOUR COUNSELOR. At that point we will send your official transcript and any test scores we have on file.Seniors- It is never too early to begin your applications!

Common App
The Common App is a useful tool for those students who are applying to multiple private schools. Over 500 private colleges and universities accept the Common App. The Common App allows students to input their information and apply to multiple schools at the same time. -
SAT
It is recommended that students who are planning to apply to college should take the SAT in the spring of their junior year. Many students opt to take the test again in the fall of their senior year if they are not happy with their original scores. Most colleges/universities require the SAT or ACT for admission. However, select schools offer a test-optional admission.
Be sure to pay attention to deadlines.
Fee waivers are available for eligible students. -
ACT
The ACT is an assessment that most colleges/universities accept as an alternative to the SAT. Students may take both exams and most schools will use the best score for admission.
