Degrees and Certifications:

Katie Frederick

I'd like to introduce myself and tell you a little bit about me. I have been employed by Muhlenberg School District since the summer of 2007. Previous to joining my family at Muhlenberg, I worked for four years as the teacher in the primary classroom at the John Paul II Center for Special Learning through the Allentown Diocese. Since being hired by the Muhlenberg School District, I have taught special education at the second grade level for six years and then became a Special Education Teacher Consultant for grades K-6 for the following four years. I also served as the Department Chair for K-6 for three years. Following that, I continued my career here at the high school teaching Reading, Social Skills and co-teaching Advanced Biology. Until recently, I was also an assistant Cross Country coach at the high school level but decided to take a break from coaching to be able to attend more of my own child's sporting events as they are becoming more involved.

Education is so important and I am very proud of my accomplishments. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Psychology from Bloomsburg University, a Masters of Science degree in Special Education from Albright College and a Masters of Science degree in the field of Education and Development Strategies from Wilkes University. I am certified annually in Safety Care and through coaching, am certified in CPR and First Aid as well.

During this school year, my intention is to enhance your child's reading skills and challenge them to rise above the challenges they face both in and out of the classroom setting. We will be working on decoding skills, vocabulary, comprehension, fluency and reading novels as well in order to participate in discussions and make sense of the author's intention and rationale as well as determine our own interpretations of the text. We will be working to prepare your child for their future endeavours in order to get them ready for what they will experience after high school.
