• We are currently working very hard to improve our reading skills in the following areas:

Phonemic Awareness - This is the ability to notice, think about, and work with individual sounds in spoken words.

Phonics (Decoding Skills) - This is the relationship between the written language and the individual sounds of a spoken language. Children use these relationships to read and write words.

Oral Reading Fluency - This is the ability to read a text accurately and quickly. Fluent readers read effortlessly, automatically, and with expression.

Vocabulary - These are the words we must know to communicate effectively. Oral vocabulary refers to words that we recognize in listening and use in speaking. Reading vocabulary refers to words we recognize in print, or use in writing.

Comprehension - This is the reason for reading! A reader should understand what they read, remember what they read, and be able to communicate with others about what they read.
