Mr. Anthony conceived and developed a graduate level Continuing Professional Education course for Pennsylvania educators through the Berks County Intermediate Unit. The course, Actively Engaging Readers in the English Classroom, received state approval and is scheduled to run in the summer of 2018, providing him the opportunity to foster improved student literacy and engagement across classrooms throughout the county by introducing area middle and high school teachers to highly effective reading and writing workshop approaches.
Mr. Anthony's passion for the reading and teaching of young adult literature has resulted in a classroom library of more than 5,000 young adult novels ranging through varied reading levels and genres including but not limited to complex historical fiction and fantasy, timely dystopian titles, traditional gothic horror, inviting LGBT books, and high interest urban tales. He was nominated for the 2013 Random House Teacher Award for Literacy, an award which recognizes Innovative Projects in Support of Cultivating Literacy and Lifelong Readers.
