Introduction

***All information below will be printed on the first assignment sheet***

This year's eighth-grade Science Fair project will be introduced to students near the end of September. The project will have a thematic approach, meaning that all students' projects will have to focus on Earth and Space Sciences. Earth and Space Science is a broad topic area including Geology, Astronomy, Meteorology, Oceanography, and Evironmental Science. Students will have to pick a project that deals with one of these areas. Students will have the choice of doing an experimental project or building a model, in addition to creating a backboard display. Students will have a graded interview and will be given the option of entering the Reading-Berks Science and Engineering Fair. For more information on the Reading-Berks Science and Engineering Fair please visit the RBSEF link.

Below are brief descriptions of what an experimental project and a model project are.

Experimental Project - Students will be required to perform an on-going experiment where-by they compile data over the course of 6 weeks (minimum) pertaining to their experiment. they will be responsible for following the time-line and completing the minimum requirement listed on the grading sheet.

Model Project - Students will be required to contruct a model pertaining to the subject matter of their project. The model must be constructed in a way that shows skillful planning and time dedication. They will be responisble for following the time-line and completing at least the minimum requirements listed on the grading sheet.

RBSEF

The Reading Berks Science and Engineering Fair (RBSEF) is an option for students. Each year the Reading Berks Science and Engineering Fair is held at Albright College, around spring break. Entering requires that you can get your project there, attend an interview session, and take your project home. Interviews in the Reading Berks Science and Engineering Fair can be everything, as they can determine if you will win anything. It is possible to win something even if it isn't the greatest project ever or if you don't get an interview, but it is highly recommended to give a good interview. Interviews are very easy and are nothing to worry about. Each year they give away many prizes and cash awards as well as 1st - 5th and honorable mention prizes. Registration fees will be covered by the school if you wish to participate. For more information on the Reading Berks Science and Engineering Fair please visit the link below.
