8th Grade
Reading - The eighth grade reading course is designed to improve and enhance reading skills. Basic reading skills such as word recognition, decoding, fluency, vocabulary development and text comprehension will be emphasized. Much of the course will be strategies-based to help students develop content area reading skills and test-taking skills. Students will use a variety of genres and types of texts to focus on higher-order reading skills such as inference, vocabulary in context, drawing conclusions and predicting outcomes, and using graphic sources. In addition, students will learn the reference and study skills needed to become more independent readers and learners.
