GEOMETRY -- HONORS & COLLEGE
This course develops deductive reasoning powers of students and provides a foundation for more advanced mathematics courses. Special emphasis is placed on analyzing and problem solving techniques involving triangles, quadrilaterals, and circles.
GEOMETRY
This course develops the ability to reason deductively and provides an analysis of properties of geometric figures. The course emphasizes problem solving by experimentation and deduction.
ALGEBRA 2 -- HONORS & COLLEGE
In this course, students will be expected to solve first and second degree equations algebraically and graphically. Polynomial and exponential functions will also be studied. This material will be used to help students develop a pattern of logical thinking to be applied in both further mathematics and life situations.
ALGEBRA 2
In this course, students will be expected to solve first and second degree equations algebraically and graphically. The course covers topics at a slower pace and in less depth than the usual Algebra 2 course. It takes an intuitive approach that eases students into the material and helps them gain the confidence they will need to achieve in future courses. Systems of equations as well as exponential and logarithmic functions will be covered. This course is oriented to application and practice of algebraic concepts using technology and real-world problems.
PRECALCULUS -- HONORS & COLLEGE
Gives students an understanding of the trigonometric functions, as well as polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic functions, and functions involving radicals and offers a foundation for theory of calculus to prepare students for college level study.
TRIGONOMETRY
This course serves two purposes: 1) Reinforce the concepts and skills of Algebra and Geometry, and 2) To introduce the concepts of trigonometry and trigonometric functions. The course will include extensive emphasis on applications and modeling that demonstrates the usefulness and applicability of trigonometry in the everyday world. The course will include the study of angles and trigonometric functions, their graphs, and solving equations.
AP CALCULUS AB
This one-year course is a more reformed, faster paced course that prepares students for taking the AP exam. This course introduces the Theory of Limits and the differentiation and integration processes and their applications.
CALCULUS
This one-year course introduces the Theory of Limits and the differentiation and integration processes and their applications. Course includes a review of analytic geometry, but is not taught as an Advanced Placement course.
DISCRETE MATHEMATICS
This course is the connection between mathematics and down-to-earth, concrete real-life problems. It includes the mathematics of social choice, management science, statistics, and the mathematics of nature. It is designed to be a college-level liberal arts mathematics course.
MATHEMATICS FOR THE WORKPLACE
This course is designed for students planning to attend a two-year school or enter the workplace after graduation. Included will be advanced topics in Geometry, Algebra 2, right triangle trigonometry, and an introduction to quality assurance and process control and statistics.
PROBABILITY & STATISTICS
This course is designed to teach students how to use statistical methods to interpret real-life data. Students will make use of graphing calculators and spreadsheets to gain an understanding of descriptive statistics, probability distributions, and hypothesis testing.
AP STATISTICS
This course is structured around the AP Statistics curriculum. Students taking this course may be able to receive college credits if they earn a 3 or better on the AP exam at the end of the year. The students will gain an understanding of how to use statistical methods to interpret real-life data. The students will use graphing calculators as well as computer software. The main topics of the course include organizing data, probability, designing samples and experiments, hypothesis testing, and analyzing data.
REMEDIAL MATHEMATICS
This course is designed for the student who has not successfully mastered the high school Algebra 1 course. This full-year course is designed to assess student mathematics skills as defined by the Pennsylvania State Mathematics Standards and provide remediation for skill mastery. In addition, students will be encouraged to develop positive behaviors in the areas of classroom preparation and task completion. Students will also develop meaningful learning goals beneficial in career application and/or future math course selections.
ESSENTIAL MATH
This semester course is a requirement of any senior student who is not proficient on the Pennsylvania State Standard Assessment (PSSA) in mathematics. This course will be scheduled in place of a study hall and will be scheduled in addition to the student's required math credit course. The first quarter will focus on the student's individual mathematics deficiencies as tracked by the PSSA. The student will be remediated prior to taking the PSSA retest in October. The second quarter of the course will focus on life skills in mathematics such as money management as well as course tutoring for their mathematics clas.
