The faculty and staff at Muhlenberg Elementary Center (MEC) would like to welcome you to our website. Our school, which opened in 1997, is the only elementary school serving the Muhlenberg School District which consists of the Boroughs of Laureldale and Temple, along with Muhlenberg Township. Ninety-five professional staff members and seventy support staff serve the children attending Muhlenberg Elementary on a daily basis. Our building, which is located at the corner of Kutztown Road and Sharp Avenue in Laureldale, PA shares a campus setting with the Muhlenberg High School (9 - 12) and the Muhlenberg Middle School (6 - 8). More than 1,350 students in grades K-5 attend Muhlenberg Elementary. Our population is quite diverse due to our location which is just a short commute from the metropolitan area of Reading, PA.
We are very proud and honored to be a part of the Muhlenberg School District community. As a united community, we can prepare our students for tomorrow's challenges and opportunities. Muhlenberg Elementary Center is not a great school by accident. Our greatness is a result of members of the school community truly working together for the benefit of children. This combination of cooperation and commitment on the part of parents, children, teachers and community members is very special and should be celebrated. We welcome your participation in our Muhlenberg Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and we encourage parents to volunteer to work in their child's classroom. On-going communication between home and school is very important to ensure a positive connection with all aspects of school life. Our monthly newsletter, "MUHL Times", along with the use of our school website, will keep parents aware of upcoming events and continuing successes. Our website will be updated throughout the school year and we hope you enjoy all of the new items placed on the website as the year progresses.
Children are the focus of everything we do at Muhlenberg Elementary Center. We focus on making Muhlenberg Elementary Center a safe place for learning. We take pride in the physical appearance of both our school and students. We encourage all students to attend school on a daily basis. All students should strive to be the very best. We believe that all students need to set goals for themselves and work to their fullest potential.
As a result of federal legislation commonly referred to as "No Child Left Behind," increasing student achievement is a primary goal for the students and staff at Muhlenberg Elementary. We are continually enhancing our programs and providing on-going professional development for our teachers to meet the needs of our students. We hold high expectations for our students in all academic subjects and in their attendance. We continue to prepare students for the PSSA and we have a comprehensive writing program in all grades and all subjects. Furthermore, the use of our "PSSA Words of the Day" increases our students' knowledge of terminology stressed in the PA Academic Standards in both reading and mathematics. As a school community we are absolutely committed to increasing the achievement of our students. Our teachers are committed to an outstanding academic program which provides all students the opportunity to learn and develop their skills to the fullest potential.
Again, we welcome your involvement in our school and look forward to working with you this year. Please don't hesitate to contact us with your questions and/or concerns. We wish everyone a safe, successful and rewarding school year!
